R v Crown Court of Sheffield Ex Parte Brownlow [1980] QB 530 Court of Appeal
The defendant was a police officer. The defence barrister wished to vet the jury for criminal records as it was considered those with criminal convictions may be bias against the police. In the Court of Appeal, Lord Denning described jury vetting as unconstitutional, but stated the court was powerless to intervene.
